Donator

Famous wreck in South France (Hyeres). She is categorized as one of the best places to dive in the Mediterranean, thanks to the visibility, beauty of the soft corals and other flora on her.

Prosper Schiaffino was built in 1933 and named Donator. On November 10th, 1945 she was nearing her final destination Marseille, when bad weather made the Captain decide to take a more sheltered route, near to the coast as she was heavily loaded with a cargo of wine. Unfortunately, she ran straight into an uncleared minefield. Her bow was nearly torn off and she sank by the stern within a few minutes. Her crew, not beng able to launch the boats, jumped overboard. All but 2 of the crew were saved 4 hours later. 2 of the rescued died later.

The dive

In September 2026 I attended a VDST (CMAS) instructor examination, which will allow me to certify students for technical diving courses in the future. The exam itself was quite demanding, but I also took the opportunity to digitally document several significant shipwrecks while I was there. The water depth is 50m

Model

I scanned the wreck in one dive. You can find the 3D files in my Shop
