Kimon M

Built in Hamburg to serve as a motorized refrigerated freighter, the Kimon M was a 106 meter long ship powered by two 8-cylinder diesel engines producing with a single propeller. She ran aground in 1978 after colliding with the northeast corner of Shaab Abu Nuhas en route to Bombay. She was to deliver a load of 4,500 tons of bagged lentils. She now lies 30 meters below the surface at Abu Nuhas. Diving ships don’t do this wreck very often, because it lies deeper than the others on the reef and divers need Advanced Level certification or higher.

I scanned this wreck with my wife on April 5th 2022.
