Athanassios

Wreck in 12m water in Plytra Bay, Laconian Bay, Peloponnese (Greece). Built in 1888 in Trieste, Austria-Hungary, as a passenger freighter SANTORIO. Steam engine 2 cylinders. Since 1938 oil engine. Sunk during WW2 on April 26th, 1941 after attack by German aircraft.

– 1917 renamed ERZSI.
– 1920 renamed MERKUR
– 1921 renamed NIKITA DENDRINOS
– 1936 renamed ANASTASIOS RIGAS.
– 1937 renamed ATHANASSIOS in 1937.

1938 new oil engine installed 09/04/1940 requisitioned by the Greek government. April 26, 1941 under the command of the captain and part owner Eleftherios Rigas on the way from Patras to Piraeus via the southern Peloponnese. Attacked with bombs and machine guns by German Luftwaffe aircraft in Plytra Bay, Laconian Bay, Peloponnese, Greece, and sunk. After the war, the wreck was partially scrapped. Machine is missing.
