The “Kiyosumi Maru” was built in 1934 as a luxurious transport ship. The Japanese navy took control of her in 1941 and converted here into an armed merchant ship.
She is lying on port side in with large torpedo holes in 30m water depth. She is loaded with AA guns, gun turrets, bicycles, shells and other artifacts. She was sunk by U.S. dive bombers during ‘Operation Hailstone’ (17.2.1944 – 18.2.1944). The Japanese losses were extremely high during this military operation – the complete fleet was destroyed.
The wreck lies at a depth of 30 meters (100 fsw), within Truk Lagoon. I scanned the wreck on Feb.13th 2025
