JAKE Airplane Aichi E13A

A relatively intact IJN Aichi E13A sunk during Operation HAILSTONE on 17/18 February 1944 by aircraft from the US fast carrier strike group Task Force 58. This seaplane lies in about 20 metres of water between Weno and Tonoas in Chuuk Atoll. During WWII, the Allies ascribed shortened reporting names to all the different types of Japanese aircraft – this Aichi E13A is codenamed JAKE.
