The ship ran aground on a reef at the Sinai coast at Ras Camilla, near Gordon Reef on 21st July 2017. Three days after the collision, the ship sank backwards down a slope that was well over 100m deep. However, it remained hanging on a ledge that was about 55m deep. It was obviously an insurance fraud. The first divers to reach the wreck found wide open doors that were secured with ropes. The EPERB signal buoys were also secured in such a way that they could not float up when the ship sank. Peter Collings’ photos and the presentation of the evidence ultimately led to the insurance not having to pay out. Bad luck.
