Japanese Patrol Boat

Resting at a depth of 18–24 meters near the LCU wreck, this upright Japanese vessel was sunk by US forces in 1944. Probably a converted deep-sea trawler, likely repurposed as a submarine chaser.

A massive blast hole on the starboard side marks the site of her sinking. For divers, the wreck remains a highlight; the port-side anchor, a large bow winch, and four of the six engine cylinders are still clearly visible. While 2015 earthquakes caused significant structural damage—collapsing the galley and parts of the forward deck—the site remains a stunning dive. Although deep penetration is no longer recommended, the 40-meter wreck is now a thriving artificial reef, home to vibrant soft corals, Red Snapper, Sweetlips, and Batfish.
